Press Release Thirty five years ago, at a conference organized by IBM and MIT, the physicist Richard Feynman encourage the building of a Quantum Computer. Today, IBM Research announced a 5 Qubit Quantum System is now available to the public through an IBM Cloud interface. Quantum computing is the future of computing and has the potential to solve certain problems that are impossible to solve on today’s supercomputers. Quantum Computing could lead to the discovery of new pharmaceutical drugs, unlock new facets of artificial intelligence, develop new materials to transform industries, and search large volumes of big data. The Quantum Computing effort is also part of IBM Research’s new Frontiers Institute Consortium, of which Honda and Samsung are founding members.
